So, what're you going to do about it?!

One week into the new year, this is the time when the enthusiasm for new year's resolutions starts to fade away & we all slip back into the comfort zone of our old habits.

The pressure of the work week, the call of the cosy bed, our favourite series & the allure of garam garam gajar ka halwa (or your choice of winter comfort food) are taking over and destroying any chances of there being a You(20)2.0

I ended last year by reading this post on Instagram & it stuck in my head...

Do you ever feel like it's so hard to achieve your goals? Are you constantly demotivated because you feel like nothing's happening?

Let me tell you what I tell my clients who feel like this. Here are 3 tips to help you stay on track this year and help you come one step closer to #bethebestyou

STEP 1

KNOW WHAT YOU WANT

It's important to set goals or you can end up spending all your time working very hard towards nothing! But it's even more important to understand the difference between short term & long term goals. That's where the secret lies.

"Let's say your goal is to double the size of your business or to get married to the love of your life. It would be impractical to assume that these are going to happen overnight (or in a week or even a month). Actually that's exactly what most of us end up doing. We worry, fret & ponder over it for a few days and when after a week or so we don't see any major changes, we start losing hope."

Wouldn't it make much more sense to break up our goals into smaller, short term goals & then work towards them?

"You want to double your business- first identify where the additional business will come from & then aim to approach those new clients, focus on getting one new client & take it from there."

In essence, on January 1st, set goals for

  • The whole year

  • The first 3 months

  • The first month

STEP 2

FOLLOW THE PLAN

This, up there, is good advice. Planning is crucial but working according to the plan is what will help you achieve your goals. Most of us are meticulous planners, but not doers. So Step 2 is all about Taking Action!

Go out there and take the first step, then the second & keep going. Someone once taught me a very simple trick... when you're confused or seem to be losing focus, go back to the plan, see where you are and see what steps you skipped- It'll bring you back on track. And this is really good advice!

STEP 3

BE OPEN TO CHANGE

A wise man once said-

If you want new results, it's time to do something different (change your diet, change your hairstylist, learn a new skill, get a new fitness regime, change your job or your approach to the same job) I personally believe the first thing we all must change is our Attitude. This changes everything! Become more positive, celebrate the small victories, learn from your mistakes, stop focussing on your failures. This is the smallest but most potent change you can make and it won't cost you a single rupee.

Try these habits (I'll write more about them in my next posts) They changed my life-

  • Practice Gratitude - find things to be thankful for instead of focussing on what you don't have

  • Think Proactively - Focus on the solution rather than looking for someone to blame

  • Do Good for Others - Try and do at least one good unselfish deed a day. When you help others it makes you feel good about yourself (and it will come back around to you)

So let me ask you today what are you going to do that's different in 2020 to help you make the life you truly want & #bethebestyou
