Festive Reboot

I love this time of year! Festive season is upon us and it’s the perfect reason to recreate your image. Here are the 10 steps of the Festive Reboot!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Time to defeat the excuses & procrastination and let the true you shine.

STEP 1

FOCUS ON HEALTH⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Someone has rightly said, “health is wealth” “jaan hai toh jahaan hai”. The journey to the best you starts with good health. So it’s time to shake off the laziness, stop with the excuses and adopt a regular exercise routine. WFH has given us extra time which we can choose to spend on ourselves.

Eating healthy and getting enough sleep are also crucial.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Regular health checkups & visits to the dentist, though unpleasant, are important to keep any health issues at bay.

STEP 2

FOCUS ON MENTAL HEALTH⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Here are a few ways in which you can take care of your mental health⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

1. Do what you love- find a hobby you truly enjoy⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

2. Think positive thoughts and stop being overly critical of yourself. Talk to yourself, like you would talk to someone you love and build your self esteem⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

3. Learn to have fun and stop taking yourself seriously. Laugh, sing and dance. Embrace the child within you⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

4. Be grateful for everything you have and count your blessings. Practicing gratitude helps develop a more positive and optimistic frame of mind⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

5. Avoid toxic situations and people. Choose to walk away from conflict and don’t let small toxic comments take away your peace of mind. Switching off from social media really helps sometimes⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

6. Reach out to someone you love. Social distancing shouldn’t be isolation. Talk to a friend, connect with family, join a support group or seek out a counsellor. Knowing that you are not alone, makes everything easier ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Seeking help, feeling low, crying- none of these make you weak. Know that a healthy mind is as important as a healthy body.

STEP 3

FOCUS ON SKINCARE⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I’ve said it before & I’ll say it again, healthy skin is not for only women. Healthy clear skin demonstrates that you care about your health and appearance. Skin issues like acne, marks, etc lower your confidence and distract froM living your best life. A basic skincare routine includes the 3 steps CTM, protecting your skin from UV rays and free radicals and maintaining a healthy diet.

STEP 4

FOCUS ON HAIRCARE⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Although your hair type and concerns will alter your hair care routine in some ways, these are the basic steps of a good hair care routine⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

-Cleanse: shampoo your hair to cleanse the scalp, roots and length of your hair with a mild shampoo. As often as is required (minimum twice a week)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

-Condition: to moisturise and seal your hair cuticle. A good conditioner also helps detangle your hair and prevent breakage⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

-Style while you protect: use products that will protect your hair from heat styling and UV rays as you step out. These can cause premature aging of hair just like skin⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

-Haircuts and color: can uplift your style and create the image you desire. Choose a cut that suits your face shape and your lifestyle (roles goals and occasions) choose colors to add brightness and intensity to your personal colouring.

STEP 5

FOCUS ON BODY LANGUAGE

Your body speaks volumes, all you need to do is master the language.

Here is positive, confident body language decoded.

1. Smile- a genuine heartfelt smile

2. Make eye contact- when talking to someone & look at them while they talk to you

3. Sit up and stand up straight, don’t slouch

4. Don’t cross your arms as this is considered to be closed posture

5. Walk purposefully with confident strides

6. Maintain social distance, specially in covid times

7. Don’t fidget

STEP 6

FOCUS ON DRESSING

When was the last time you stepped out without any clothes on?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

If you are going to wear clothes, might as well wear something that helps you in looking good, feeling confident, thinking positively and working to achieve your goals.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The fact remains that we all do tend to judge a book by its cover and a person by their clothes. Choose the clothes that ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

-work for your physical body shape and colouring to look attractive⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

-work for your roles and goals to always be appropriate⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

-work for your taste and preferences and display your authentic personal style⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

-work for your lifestyle and are affordable within your budget⠀

STEP 7

FOCUS ON CLEANLINESS

Traditionally, this time of the year is dedicated to decluttering and cleaning our homes. The change of season and the upcoming festivities set the mood for upgrading and updating our homes and wardrobes too.

For many of us, the Coronavirus has meant that Work From Home had become a long-term reality. This means that we need our homes to multitask and function as an office, school and family space all-in-one! To make this a beautiful and functional reality we need to create separate zones for work and relaxation. Having a clean, decluttered space helps minimize stress and maximise the enjoyment of our homes.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Rely on a seasonal wardrobe edit along with a spring cleaning of the home as well- Sort through your wardrobe and remove what you no longer wear. ⠀⠀⠀

  • Similarly, declutter and remove old utensils, linens, unused cartons, decor, etc and refresh your space.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Donate the discards which are still usable to those who need it- there are many NGOs that can ensure your donations reach the right people. And make sure you dispose off the rest, in an environmentally friendly way.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Move the furniture around, clean and redecorate.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Go shopping to refresh and update your wardrobe. ⠀

STEP 8

FOCUS ON RELATIONSHIPS

Few things have such a huge impact on happiness and the enjoyment of life as the relationships we have. It could be the relationships with our partners, family members, co-workers, even our pets and the people we have known since we were kids. These relationships create our happy place. Dwell in your happy place this festive season. Make some time for those you love

STEP 9

FOCUS ON CELEBRATION

You live in paradise, you just don’t realise it”

- Swami Muktananda

The festive season is upon us and we are all gearing up for the big celebrations. Many of us may be disappointed that there won’t be the usual pomp and grandeur this year. The coronavirus sure turned out to be a damp squib. But what is even more important in life is that we celebrate the little things because it is the little things that are a big deal.

Focus on what nurtures and sustains you, on everything that brings you the smallest pleasures. Notice these things that you take for granted so easily.

We can’t stop the bad stuff from happening but we can learn how to stop emphasising the bad stuff.

  • Celebrate the good weather by taking a walk

  • Celebrate family by playing a board game together

  • Celebrate friendship on a video call

  • Celebrate life by smiling more often

The demon is always within

The goddess is always within

The battle too, is always within

And so is the triumph of one over the other.

Which one wins?

The choice too, is also always within

May you be ever victorious!

This festive season, #bethebestyou with me⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
